Chardonnay is the most famous white wine grape, originating from France's Burgundy region

and spreading all over the world.  The styles of Chardonnay vary depending on the climate,

but is known to be an excellent traveler and very easy to grow.  The Chardonnay grape personality is

one that it picks up on other flavors easily.   In the New World, Chardonnay popularity grew even more with

emergence of California growing regions, Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley.  California took the

Chardonnay to new levels of character, taste and style.  Often referred to as "big" and "oaky",

not a taste flaw, but a desired style.  "Un-oaked" Chardonnay's originated from the Chablis

region of France.  The world has recently been rediscovering them.  In the Champagne region

of France, Chardonnay is one of three grapes to make sparkling wine.   The Chardonnay is picked

before it is fully ripe while with full acidity and fruit flavors, it is the perfect combination for

sparkling wine. Not only is the Chardonnay grape versatile as a wine, its affinity with foods,

depending on the style of wine matches well with a wide range of foods.
