Semillon produces wine with little acidity, which is why it is most often blended with Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc to give balance to these grapes. It is most famous and highly prized for the noble sweet wines of Bordeaux's Sauternes Area or used in Bordeaux whites.

Sangiovese is one of the top two red grapes in Italy. Mostly recognized for a well known wine called Chianti from Tuscany. This grape produces wine with medium to high acidity and moderate tannins.

Syrah is a strong grape variety for red wine.  It is very important in the Rhone Valley of France and in Australia where they call it Shiraz.

Tannat produces forceful wines full of color, with a strong structure and moderate tannins. Most known as the basis of the reds from Madiran, France, also present in wines from Uruguay.

Tempranillo an important red wine grape native to northern Spain. It produces wines that are deep colored and can range in style from medium to full bodied. It is also a principle grape used to blend with Garnacha (Grenache)

Zinfandel considered California's grape. It's claim to fame came with the production of White Zinfandel an off-dry to sweet rose' style wine. Realizing it's potential California now produces full bodied very complex wines from this grape.
