Descriptors: Raspberries, strawberries, cranberries, figs, violets, roses, game, smoke, earth, truffles and mushrooms. |
Pinot Noir is best known for making red Burgundy wines in France. Making the most
silky wines, from light to medium style. When young, Pinot Noir is very fruity in character.
In well made Pinot Noirs, the smell and taste becomes more complex as the wine matures.
Referred to as the "fussy" grape, Pinot Noir tends to do better in the cooler climates of
France, Germany, Italy, Oregon and the cooler regions of California. Of all the wine grapes,
Pinot Noir is known for it's elegance. In the Champagne region of France,
Pinot Noir is one of three main grapes in making sparkling wine. They must be careful when
pressing the grapes so the juice doesn't get any of the pink color from its skin.
With fine foods Pinot Noir is a great match.
