SPAIN
Spain, in a country where heat is a factor, and irrigation
was few, how could wine grapes survive? That was then, this is
now. Spain has a long history of wine. Like Italy, food and wine
have always played a role in everyday life. When you think of Spain,
what comes to mind, would be Sherries. Spain was made very famous
for it's process, to fortify the still wine with alcohol. Styles can be
dry and complex, to rich and sweet. But we are here to talk about
still wines, the juice that makes our hearts sing and imaginations fly.
So, when I think of wines from Spain, two words come to
my mind: Tempranillo and Rioja. Let's start with Rioja. It's one of
the most well known wine regions in Spain, located north of Madrid.
The wines can be classified as follows: Crianza, Reserva, and Gran
Reserva. Each with it's own set of rules as to how the wine is made.
Other regions of interest are: LaMancha, Jumilla, and Ribera Del Duero.
Other grapes: Garnacha (Grenache), Monastrel reds and Albarino
for white.
Cava, the name given for the sparkling wines of Spain, made
using the Traditional Champagne Method, producing complex, fine
sparklers, to light fruitier style wines. So, as you can tell from reading,
every country has it's own style or expression of our favorite wine grape.
So, never limit yourself to just one, try them all. Below are examples
of wine from this area you can purchase from us.
